Banqueting House was built by Charles I Stuart, King of England, Scotland & Ireland (1600-1649); designed by Inigo Jones (1573-1652); and ceiling paintings by Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640).

The Painted Hall - also known as “Britain’s Sistine Chapel” was painted by Sir James Thornhill (1675-1734).

The Painted Hall is in a wing of the Royal Naval College - designed by Sir Christopher Wren (1632-1723) - and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Maritime Greenwich.

Scottish Civil Engineer and Well Known Designer and Builder of Lighthouses.

Alexander Burnett and his son Robert Burnett [*1] were Lighthouse Keepers at Lighthouses designed and built by Robert Stevenson and his three sons Alan, Davis & Thomas. Point of Ayre, Chanonry Point, Little Ross, Covesea Skerries, Ruvaal, Noss Head, Muckle Flugga and probably also Isle of May, Calf of Man, Corsewell, Mull of Galloway ...
Note: [*1] Based on research - Robert Burnett was probably a son of Alexander Burnett.

Robert Stevenson was also a Grandfather of novelist Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) who is believed to have been inspired to write “Treasure Island” after a trip to Muckle Flugga Lighthouse and Unst, Shetland Islands.

220th Anniversary of the Birth of Victor Hugo (1802-1885)

French Poet, Novelist, and Playwright - "The Hunchback of Notre Dame”, "Les Miserables" ...

After the French Revolution of 1787-1799 - when many Gothic Cathedrals and Churches were damaged or destroyed - the “Hunchback of Notre Dame” novel (first published 1931) - served to remind readers of the splendour and historical significance of Gothic Architecture in Paris - and also served as a catalyst for restoration of Gothic structures - such as the Cathedral of Notre Dame.

Photos of Victor Hugo memorial plaque outside the Palais-Royal - and Cathedral of Notre Dame before the Cathedral sustained serious damage from a fire that started in the roof in April 2019. Restoration is expected to be completed in 2024.

The Cathedral of Notre Dame is part of the Paris, Banks of the Seine UNESCO World Heritage Site.

200th Anniversary of Deciphering the Egyptian Hieroglyphics on the Rosetta Stone

The Rosetta Stone was discovered in 1799 and includes three versions of a decree issued in 196 BC. The top and middle texts are in Ancient Egyptian using Hieroglyphic and Demotic scripts respectively - and the bottom text is in Ancient Greek. Knowledge of Egyptian Hieroglyphics had been lost during the Medieval Period. Then a breakthrough was made in 1822 when Jean-Francois Champollion (1790-1832) deciphered the Egyptian Hieroglyphics on the Rosetta Stone.

The Rosetta Stone was discovered in Rosetta - part of the Historic Quarters and Monuments of Rosetta/Rachid - on the tentative list for submission as a UNESCO World Heritage Site candidate.

Queen Elizabeth II passed away September 8, 2022 at Balmoral Castle - her coffin was conveyed to: the Palace of Holyroodhouse - St. Giles Cathedral - Buckingham Palace - Westminster Hall - Westminster Abbey - Wellington Arch - along the Long Walk to Windsor Castle - St. George’s Chapel - her final resting place.
