Man, Corsewell, Mull of Galloway ...

Robert Stevenson was also a Grandfather of novelist Robert Louis
Stevenson (1850-1894) who is believed to have been inspired to
write “Treasure Island” after a trip to Muckle Flugga

220th Anniversary of the Birth of Victor Hugo (1802-1885)
French Poet, Novelist, and Playwright - "The Hunchback of
Notre Dame”, "Les Miserables" ...
After the French Revolution of 1787-1799 - when many Gothic
Cathedrals and Churches were damaged or destroyed - the “Hunchback
of Notre Dame” novel (first published 1931) - served to
remind readers of the splendour and historical significance of
Gothic Architecture in Paris - and also served as a catalyst for
restoration of Gothic structures - such as the Cathedral of
Notre Dame.
Photos of Victor Hugo memorial plaque outside the Palais-Royal -
and Cathedral of Notre Dame before the Cathedral sustained
serious damage from a fire that started in the roof in April
2019. Restoration is expected to be completed in 2024.
The Cathedral of Notre Dame is part of the Paris, Banks of the
Seine UNESCO World Heritage Site.
200th Anniversary of Deciphering the Egyptian Hieroglyphics on
the Rosetta Stone
The Rosetta Stone was discovered in 1799 and includes three
versions of a decree issued in 196 BC. The top and middle texts
are in Ancient Egyptian using Hieroglyphic and Demotic scripts
respectively - and the bottom text is in Ancient Greek.
Knowledge of Egyptian Hieroglyphics had been lost during the
Medieval Period. Then a breakthrough was made in 1822 when
Jean-Francois Champollion (1790-1832) deciphered the Egyptian
Hieroglyphics on the Rosetta Stone.
The Rosetta Stone was discovered in Rosetta - part of the
Historic Quarters and Monuments of Rosetta/Rachid - on the
tentative list for submission as a UNESCO World Heritage Site
candidate.
