Edward Starbuck & Catherine (Reynolds?) and their family were Early English Settlers of
Dover, New Hampshire and then Nantucket Island, Massachusetts.

The idea for the name Starbucks Corporation (coffeehouses) - apparently
came from the name of the chief mate “Starbuck” - from Nantucket - in the
book “Moby-Dick” (1851) by Herman Melville.

The first monument (erected in 1881) to honour the First English
Settlers includes the following wording after the names of the ten
Settlers :
Many of the descendants of these worthy sires, have been distinguished
for their courage and energy, and left a record for others to emulate.
The second monument (erected in 2009) to honour the wives of the First
English Settlers includes the following wording after the names of the ten wives :
These women bore a total of eighty children. Among the the English women laid to rest on this hilltop were the
foremothers of many generations of offspring who have peopled the Island since 1659.
An example of an early New England family home that was also used as
a Garrison House for protection against attacks from Native American
Indian tribes.
As soon as roads were built and well enough developed - horse drawn
stagecoaches were used to transport passengers, mail and goods between
towns and across regions.
