As soon as roads were built and well enough developed - horse drawn
stagecoaches were used to transport passengers, mail and goods between
towns and across regions.
This mode of transport developed at different times across North America
- for example the 18th Century in New England and the 19th Century in
the Eastern Townships of Quebec.
Over time - long distance stagecoach routes were replaced with the
arrival of railways - and stagecoach services changed their focus to
shorter distance routes connecting towns with the growing network of
railway stations.
