Research Notes: The Cathédrale Royale de Saint-Denis / Basilique Saint-Denis (Northern Paris) was the initial and final burial site for many centuries for most of the former Kings of France and their families.
Many individual Royal Tombs are still in existence - and in about 1817 - the surviving remains were placed in a Royal Ossuary in the Crypt - behind marble plaques with a list of the known individuals interred in the Cathedral.
