1060th Anniversary of the Christianization of Poland

1060th Anniversary of the Christianization and Creation of Statehood of Poland in 966.

In 1966 the Vatican issued a series of six postage stamps to celebrate the "Millenium of Christianization of Poland".

The 15L stamp includes King Mieszko I & Queen Dąbrówka - the first Christian Rulers of Poland. King Mieszko I was baptized in 966. The stamp design was based on portraits by Jan Matejko c.1896.

70th Anniversary - Entering Into Force - the Hague 1954
            Convention

70th Anniversary of the Entering Into Force of the Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict (signed 1954).

The 1954 Convention was signed in the Ridderzaal (Hall of Knights) in the Binnenhoff (Inner Court) of The Hague - the former Palace of the Counts of Holland - starting from 1229 when Floris IV, Count of Holland (d.1234) acquired the grounds of the Binnenhoff.

The 1954 Convention has been ratified by 138 States (by June 2025).

During previous armed conflicts - especially WWII - there has been significant destruction and damage to Cultural Property. The International Treaty is dedicated to safeguarding Cultural Property - such as monuments, historical sites, works of art, and scientific collections - from the destruction and looting during armed conflicts.


2026 Milano Cortina Olympics - and Verona Ceremonies

Winter Olympic & Paralympic Games 2026 - Milano Cortina
70 Years since the last Cortina Olympics & 20 Years since the Torino Olympics.

Sporting events are taking place spread between Milano and Cortina - and the Olympic Closing & Paralympic Opening Ceremonies will take place in the Roman Arena in Verona.

The Roman Arena, San Pietro & Castelvecchio Castles & Roman Gavi Gate are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site - City of Verona.
