Jubilee” (2000), The Holy Year of the Redemption - the 1950th
Anniversary of Jesus’s death and resurrection (1983), and
Extraordinary Jubilee to pray for Peace (1628).
385th Anniversary of the Death of Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640)
- Artist and Diplomat.
Images include the statue of Rubens in Antwerp, Belgium with the
Belfry of the Cathedral of Our Lady in the background – and
paintings by Rubens adorning the ceiling of Banqueting House in
London.
The Belfry of the Cathedral of Our Lady is part of the UNESCO
World Heritage Site - Belfries of Belgium and France – and the
Historical core of Antwerp from the Scheldt to the former
ramparts of around 1250 is on the tentative list for submission
as a UNESCO World Heritage Site candidate.
380th Anniversary of the Completion of Luxembourg Palace
(Paris). The Palace was completed in 1645 - and was modeled
after the Palazzo Pitti in Florence at the request of Marie de'
Medici, Queen of France (1575-1642).
Luxembourg Palace was the site of the Paris Peace Conference
following the end of World War II (WWII).
Currently (2025) the Palace is used as a Legislative Building
and the Gardens are open to the public.
345th Anniversary of the Death of Gian Lorenzo Bernini
(1598-1680) - Italian Sculptor and Architect.
Bernini was appointed “Architect of St. Peter’s” in 1629 and
works included designing St. Peter’s Square, the Scala Regia
(Royal Stairway) leading into the Vatican, the Baldachin and
Chair of the Apostle in St. Peter’s Basilica ...

185th Anniversary of the Birth of Claude Monet
(1840-1926) - French Painter and Co-Founder of Impressionism
Painting.
150th Anniversary of the Opening of the Paris Opera (Palais

The 1,979 seat Paris Opera opened in 1875. Architect Charles
Garnier (1825-1898).

21st Anniversary of the Indian Ocean Earthquake and Devastating
Tsunami (2004).
The earthquake caused a devastating tsunami, with waves up to 30
meters (100 feet) high, that killed over 230,000 people and
caused widespread destruction and damage. The coastal towns and
villages of several countries were impacted including Malaysia.
At Miami Beach, Penang, Malaysia there is a story of a 22 day
old “miracle baby” who was on a mattress and was swept away by
tsunami waves and miraculously she was later swept back by waves
and survived.
Death of Pope Francis (1936-2025).
Pope Francis (born Jorge Mario Bergoglio) passed away April 21
at the Vatican - the day after he gave an Easter Sunday blessing
“Dear brothers and sisters, Happy Easter” in Saint Peter’s
Square. His funeral service took place in Saint Peter’s Square.
His coffin was then conveyed to his final resting place in the
Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome.
