Kings & Princes of Poland - and Poznan Cathedral
A monument was erected of the first two Medieval Rulers of Poland from the Piast Dynasty -
Prince Mieszko I (d.992) and King Boleslaw I "Chrobry/the Brave” (d.1025) - in the
Archcathedral Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul (Poznan Cathedral).
Prince Mieszko I was the first Christian ruler of Poland and King Boleslaw I was the first crowned King of Poland.
Both Prince Mieszko I and his son King Boleslaw I are believed to be buried in Poznan Cathedral.

A statue was erected beside Gniezno Cathedral - of King Boleslaw I "Chrobry/the Brave”
(d.1025) (Piast Dynasty) - the first crowned King of Poland. King Boleslaw I and his son
King Mieszko II Lambert’s coronations took place at Gniezno Cathedral.
King Boleslaw I’s mother - Dobrava (Dobroslawa) of Bohemia (d.977) -
first Christian Princess of Poland - is believed to have been buried in Gniezno Cathedral.
Gniezno was the first historical Capital of Poland in the 10th and early 11th centuries.
Kings & Princes of Poland - and Krakow
The early Piast Dynasty rulers of Poland chose Wawel Hill as the site of
their Royal residence in Krakow - from Prince Mieszko I (d.992)
onwards.
Prince Kazimierz (Casimir) I "Odnowiciel / the Renewer / the Restorer” (d.1058) (Great-Grandson of Prince Mieszko I) -
made Krakow the Capital of Poland in 1039.
The Historic Centre of Krakow was admitted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978.
This was the first year sites were admitted to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Kings & Princes of Poland - and Gdansk
Mieszko I, Prince of Poland [Piast Dynasty] (d.992) is believed to have
erected a stronghold in the 10th Century in Gdansk, Poland.
Gdansk - Town of Memory and Freedom - is on the tentative list for submission as a UNESCO World Heritage Site candidate.

Kings & Princes of Poland - and Malbork Castle
Kazimierz IV (Casimir) "the Great", King of Poland (1427-1492) acquired Malbork Castle from the
State of the Teutonic Order in 1457 during the Thirteen Years' War. The Castle was
subsequently used as a Polish Royal residence until the 18th Century.
Note: Kazimierz IV was a 10th Great-Grandson of Boleslaw I "Chrobry/the Brave" King of Poland (d.1025).
The Castle of the Teutonic Order in Malbork - is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
