Conrad, Count of Auxerre, Marquis Transjurania (Burgundy) (died 876):
(i) Conrad was granted the territory of Geneva, Lausanne and Sion by Louis II, King of the West Franks (846-879).
(ii) Conrad was Ancestor of the Kings of Burgundy (888-1032) - who
expanded the Transjurania-Burgundy territory to include Provence.
(iii) Conrad's son - Rudolf - was proclaimed Rudolf I, King of Upper Burgundy at the Abbey of Saint-Maurice in 888.
His territory included Savoie, Valais, Jura, Franche-Comté and adjacent Swiss territories.
(iv) Conrad and his descendants (Kings of Burgundy) were Lay Abbots of
the Abbey of Saint-Maurice from the 9th Century to the 11th Century.

Kings of Burgundy and the Abbey of Romainmotier (Switzerland)
Rudolf I, King of Upper Burgundy (died 912) and Lay Abbot of the Abbey of Saint-Maurice - was crowned at Saint-Maurice in 888.
In the same year he gave Romainmotier to his sister Adelaide who in turn gave the Abbey to the Benedictine Order of Cluny c.928.

- Founded and was buried at Seltz Abbey (after flooding in 1307 rebuilt
nearby as Saint-Etienne of Seltz Church subsequently rebuilt after WWII
bombing damage)
- Co-Founded Meissen Cathedral in Germany

Rudolf III, the last King of an independent Burgundy (died 1032) and his
son Hugues de Bourgogne, Bishop of Lausanne (during the years
1019-1037)
are buried somewhere in the choir area of the Notre-Dame Cathedral in
Lausanne. Their burial location is likely under the current Cathedral as
Hugues,
Bishop of Lausanne apparently built the Cathedral that predated and lies
directly under the current Cathedral.
